    The South Dakota State Historical Society is seeking candidates for the Assistant Director for the Society and the Director of its state museum located at the Cultural Heritage Center in Pierre, SD. The Society is led by the State Historian and Director who reports to the Secretary of Education. The State Archivist; State Archeologist (in Rapid City); State Historic Preservation Officer; and the research and publishing office and South Dakota Historical Society Press comprise the rest of the Historical Society. The state museum collects, preserves, and interprets the rich heritage and complex history of South Dakota. The museum maintains a collection of over 35,000 artifacts and provides a regular program of exhibits, education programs and special events including outreach programs, traveling exhibits and mobile education kits. The Historical Society is an affiliate member of the Smithsonian Institution. The position is based in Pierre, SD and moving expenses are included. The successful applicant will:

    Have a Bachelors degree in Museum Studies, History or related field; while a masters is in museum studies, non-profit management or related field is preferred. The person will also need strong public speaking skills.

    Salary range: $63,000-71,000
