Custer County Historical Society Board is accepting applications for the position of Museum Director. The fundamental role for this position is the overall development, management and oversight of the 1881 Courthouse Museum.
The Director, under the direction of the Custer County Historical Society Board, will oversee personnel and volunteers, budget preparation, grant writing, collections, exhibits, facility maintenance, fund raising, bookstore and any other activities deemed necessary for the operation of the museum.
Successful performance in this position depends as much on the incumbent’s skill as an administrator as on competence as a museum director. Museum management experience would be an asset for this position.
The Museum Director will consult and coordinate with area Chambers of Commerce, Black Hills &, Badlands Tourism Association, American and State Museum Associations, and Black Hills area special events to promote the Museum.
This is a part-time position from October through April, and full-time May through September. Salary is dependent upon experience: beginning base $20K annually.
